Electrical Design Engineer

Permanent / Full Time

Design LV systems for heavy mobile equipment — Bundaberg base. CAN bus. Hydraulic controls. Permanent. Nationally established manufacturer.

  • Hands-on LV design role — CAN bus, hydraulic control systems, ADR compliance
  • Permanent Bundaberg role — regional lifestyle, stable national business
  • Career-defining scope — own the electrical design function, develop engineering
About the Company
A nationally established Australian manufacturer of heavy mobile equipment, supplying fleet operators and industrial customers across Australia and New Zealand for over 25 years. Their Bundaberg facility is home to the National Engineering Team comprising a tight-knit group of mechanical, electrical, and design engineers working on real machines that operate in demanding real-world environments. Stable, privately operated, and technically focused.

About the Role
This is a hands-on electrical design role focused on low voltage systems for heavy mobile equipment. You’ll own the design, integration, and troubleshooting of LV electrical systems from wiring schematics to hydraulic control integration, CAN bus, cameras, sensors, and telematics. You’ll work directly with mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams, and service managers to keep vehicles performing and compliant. No two days are the same, and the technical variety is genuine.

Duties
  • Design, maintain, and improve low voltage electrical systems for heavy mobile equipment platforms
  • Integrate and troubleshoot LV components, hydraulic control systems, actuators, cameras, sensors, and control panels
  • Diagnose electrical faults and perform root cause analysis to reduce fault recurrence
  • Develop and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to AS/NZS and ADR standards
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, and service teams to optimise vehicle performance nationally
Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience in LV mobile/vehicle systems
  • Practical experience in LV electrical design of automotive, heavy vehicle, agricultural machinery, mining equipment, or rail preferred
  • CAN bus proficiency. Hands-on diagnostic and integration experience essential
  • Electrical control of hydraulic systems — design and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards, ADRs, safety systems, and isolation procedures
Culture
People enjoy working here because the work is real, the team is small enough to matter, and the problems are genuinely interesting. This isn’t a corporate engineering department where you write specs for someone else to implement. You design it, you see it built, you see it work. The Bundaberg facility is collaborative and unpretentious — engineers are respected, and good ideas get adopted. Leadership is accessible and technically credible.

Benefits
  • Permanent full-time role — job security with a nationally established manufacturer with 25+ years of operation
  • Bundaberg base — regional Queensland lifestyle, affordable living, genuine work-life balance
  • Technically varied scope — LV design, hydraulics, telematics, CAD, compliance, and team development
  • Career development pathway — own your function and grow into a senior or lead engineering role
  • Uniforms provided | Employee Assistance Program | Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering team
